Update 14/12/09

Didn't fire this one out yesterday, but fitting with the Gantt chart this is the weekly update.
Finished ALL of the bike bases, and said bikes are now attached to the bases. Movement trays also finished. Didn't get much painting of the bikes done, but that's the fun bit. I hate basing.
So, that's 1 squad FULLY finished, and 2 half way through. I ordered some of the new Crimson Fist parts to finish off the captain with, him that is on the jetbike.

Painting the fists is on hold for the moment while I finish my birthday present. Codenamed: Mr Spikey. Pics will follow.

Da Projects

So, spent some time in the last week getting my ideas for the coming year down on paper. I have no in my possession a MS Project file with painting projects, deadlines, important releases etc. This will hopefully be the structure of the painting im going to do for the year. Not sure how easy it would be to show on a blog but i can give it a go later. First major milestone is already in hand. 750 Points of Crimson Fists for the Team Tournament in Jan. I have 1.5 bike squads finished. Thats finished and based. The movement tray's arrived and im just in the process of 'road-afy-ing' them. I'll upload photos either during the week or next Sunday. There is also Mr Spikey to finish painting, but he is a long term target.

Work is nearly done on my web shop too. Still waiting for the stock to arrive.

Long time no post.

Sooo, an update i feel is necessary.

As i said at the start i am a fickle beast and jump between the armies i have. So the daemons are on the side line for now.

I still like the idea of working to a dead line so the next one is 7th Jan. This is a few days before the doubles tournament. Leromides on Dakka and I are heading down to the gaming centre of the world. He is fielding Blood Angels, im on the Crimson Fists.

I'll paste the fluff for our force further down, but my army is based of 6th company fists who were actually grouped up with the BAs while Rynn's world went down, hence they survived. So there is bikes, 750 points of troopy bikes.
1 Captain + bike
4 bikes + Multi melta attack bike
4 bikes + multi melta attack bike
5 bikes

All troops. So i can get across that board as fast as possible to cause as much chaos as possible. Hopefully put them on the back foot with my possible 18 inch charge range.

I've got one bike squad(w/ attack bike) done and have a trip to London next week where the evenings will be taken up painting another squad. so thats roughly 9 bikers to paint in 2 months. An achievable goal i reckon.

And heres the fluff:
Once upon a time there was an inquisitor lord (possibly of the ordo xenos) of great repute and high esteem who during the course of a long and glorious career did many mighty deeds. Amongst those deeds were actions that indebted at least 2 chapters of astartes to him; the crimson fists and blood angels. Now the life of an inquisitor lord is a dangerous thing and eventually, inevitably our hero (name still to be decided) met his fate. Of course his long service to the imperium granted him a place at the right hand of the emperor and he was beatified. The few mortal remains of this saint became relics and this is where our force comes in because parties unknown have nicked them and the tournament represents our quest to get them back.

The game!!

Well, the game has finally been played. Had a weeks rain check due to the move.

The game itself was amazing. I had a great time. But the important info is...... I lost. its the first time the daemons have hit the table in that size of numbers. So i already know what revisions to make. I officially don't like the librarian power null zone. Makes me reroll my saves.
So, Seize ground pitched battle. Thank goodness it wasn’t annihilation. See i don't know how to explain this, as the proper term would be opponent but it was a friendly game and that sounds to harsh, yet I don’t want to put his real name, data protection and anonymity and all that. So i reckon we'll go with 'The host' which sounds all sci-fi. Well, the host was fielding a huge infantry ultramarines army. It was a sea of blue(yes i realise the sea is blue anyway). couple of vanilla ML/flamer tac squads, 2 devastator squads, hb+lasc, melta tacs, one unit of bikes plus attack bike. Hqs were librarian(hates it) and a captain.

I won the initial rolls but luckily he seized the initiative. His first turn was uneventful, just shambled forward slightly. My first turn (the gods didn’t favour my decision) i dropped a khorne dp(forgie), unit of bloodletters+herald, pink horrors and the blood crushers. The flamers scattered onto his unit and were delayed (this kind of worked in my favour)
Turn 2, forgie DP was toasted by small arms fire, horrors were dropped by half, couple off the letters, wound on the crushers. My turn i dropped the rest of the army except the initial flamers. The shooting was pathetic on my side. From now on I’m only fielding pink horrors IF im fighting anything with a 4+ save. The 3+ power armour just meant it was bouncing off them. ManhattaDaemon and flamers were the only real shooty goodness. Assault went as expected for a heavily khorne army :P

By turn 4 it was all over but the singing. I had lost my letters and my last troops were to far away to really hold anything. I concentrated all my efforts to contest but nah, just didn’t happen. The host knew exactly what to bring to the table, but even then didn’t loose the fluff feel. Like i said earlier an amazing game. Although a rematch is wanted.... on home turf... My new daemon world table(wip).

So changes to the army. Whipping out the horrors unless im up against tau/eldar. Possibly whipping out a Dp. with the extra points im going to either throw in another 2 units of letters OR invest in grandfather nurgle.

- - - - - - - Painting - - - - - - -

As you can see, it wasn't the 'completely finished' i wanted. maybe i set myself unrealistic goals, maybe the house move really messed things up. The current plan now is realistic goals. So for the end of the month i want to complete:
2 units of letters
1 forgeworld herald. (so the troops are done)
Maybe 1 unit of guardsmen(just to break up the red usage)

In between all that im going to run repairs and evaluate my tomb kings and finish building the gaming table.

Move + extra

So, the house move has happened. Unfortunately timing was crap and the 30th august big daemon game got moved to this weekend. So we'll see how they do.

With the packing, the moving, the partial unpacking i have had no time to paint or anything. I had a free night last night. Decided i wasn’t doing anymore unpacking i was sick of it. So i built something.

Kit's gaming table is built. Im waiting for a few odds and sods to come through the post to start designing the scenery, but its up and built.

Hopefully get the forgeworld khorne DP painted before saturday.

Oh, and looking at the poll it seems its Imperial guard up next to be finished off.

Ascension ut Daemon pius

My ascension to daemon-hood is complete! Ish.

Had another game on saturday.... ooooh the daemons worked nicely. Very very nicely in fact. Ive dumped the soul grinder. Which is a same cause its an awesome model. So now i have 3 daemon princes. Still a draw... bloody contesting tanks. I just dont have anything that can reliably take down the land raiders. Well, i have the DPs but they are used to eat terminators, and plague bikes.

So heres the list, 1800pts.

HoKhorne, unholy might, fury, juggy:130
HoKhorne, unholy might, fury, ironhide:110
HoKhorne, unholy might, fury, ironhide:110
HoTzeentch, MoSorcery, legion, bolt: 95

Flamers x3 + bolt: 105
Flamers x3 + bolt: 105
Bloodcrushers x3: 120

Bloodletters x10 + icon: 185
Bloodletters x10 + icon: 185
Horrors x5: 85
Horrors x5: 85

Daemon Prince, MoT, bolt, gaze, ironhide: 190
Daemon Prince, MoK, unholy might, iron hide: 145
Daemon Prince, MoK, unholy might, iron hide: 145

Now to bump this up to 2000 im tempted by death strike on those that can. But i've not been in a position recently that ive thought, "ooh i wish my DPS and khorne heralds can shoot."

Possible dakka question there i think.

Painting wise, not a lot done. My day off on thursday saw me doing things with Gabriel instead of painting. Well worth it, the little 'un is ace. Need to plan his crimson fists out. I've got his HQs painted though.

Daemons, daemons everywhere and not a drop to drink

Long time no post.

Well everything is bought and built for the big game at the end of august. Still on track for the deadline i think. From what i can tell, i have 3 bloodcrushers, 1 DP, and 20 Bloodletters to do then im done. Blood letters should be fairly quick though. I've got another test game this saturday. Got owned last saturday so lets see if i fare better this week.

I'll write up the 2000 pt list and update at the begining of the week. My resin bases came in from dark art miniatures. Really like the lava set. Going to put all my Khorne on them.

Here is Mr Khorne herald.

3way fun

As much as i love a 3way game, i just never bring the right mix to the table. I left the daemons on the shelf for this one. Im still learning how they work and the way the scenario plays i wasn't exaclty sure how to incorporate them. The Air Cav Guard stood up to the plat. Well between a shooty death eldar load out and a shooty death tau load out I just didnt have enough shooty death on my side. I also made my usual mistake when facing the eldar. No plasma to deal with a rampaging avatar. The tau were pretty much unscathed by both myself and the eldar, they took shots just amazingly good saves. Also the first time ive seen tau win an assault against Dire Avengers, and also lose no warriors. Next time gadget, next time!!

On the daemons front it's progressing really well towards the deadline. I've now bought all the bloodcrushers i need. I'll right up the list properly nearer the time. Painting-wise I finished the second unit of 5 horrors, finished the unit of 6 flamers, finished skulltaker.

Plan for friday is get the soul grinder/blood letters green stuffed(grumble ill fitting plastic) for spraying and painting sat/sun. I'll try to update on Wednesday with some pictures of whats painted so far.... yeah, when i say painted i don't mean based yet. That, i reckon, can come a week before the game. I pretty sure i'm going to make it. I'll have to find out how my mate is getting along with his 2000pt of smurfs.

Daemons etc.

Meh. Not much to update. So for my week i have to show for it....
1 unit of 6 completed horrors
1 tzeentch herald
half painted skulltaker
half of a 3 man unit of flamers painted.

I had to take time away from the daemons to paint a birthday present. So thats eaten a lot of time as im trying to give it the attention id give a hq guy. Its been a good test bed for reds and skulls. Giving me some techniques for skulltaker and vice versa.

This weekend there is a 3way planned. So the Daemons won't be coming. WAY to complicated to have their deep striking shenanigans. Time to dust off the Air Cav guard. Mmmmm neede more valkyries. At least they are a mechanised force. Nothing like a 12AV armour save :P Take that Meqs!!

So for the Daemon deadline what have i to paint. Im going to list these in units as its failry easy to bash on through whole units of daemons. Written in the order they are getting done.

1 unit of flamers(1/2 just to finish)
1 unit of 5 horrors
1 unit of 3 bloodcrushers(1 more to buy)
1 herald on a juggy(also to buy)
1 unit of bloodletters
1 soul grinder
touch up the carnival of chaos nurgley boys

6 items, 5 weeks. I reckon this is possible. I'll crack on this weekend, finish the Bday present. So my challenge for Monday is, 3 flamers, 5 horrors, 2 bloodcrushers. That should leave me tons of time for the rest.

Daemon in the sack, Part Duex!

Quite impressed with my little output lately. But i have sad news too.

So that my main squad of Tzeentch daemons. With the herald. Really not impressed with the quality. But to be honest, without excessive highlight i have no idea what to do to improve it. I'll throw it up on Dakka to see what they suggest. If anyone actually reads this your more than welcome to throw down comments.

So next on the list is the flamers.

Now the sad news, I've looked at my second squad of horrors, the old style ones. To be honest, i think i want to ditch them for the new ones as they look to comical for my army look. :( So that means i may need fit them into the purchase schedule. At the moment the next purchase is going to be more flamers. Might try to fit in more horrors too. Tomorrow i brave the spider infested garage to find my carnival of chaos mordheim warband to 40k them.

First game

So, the daemons had there first outing. The chaos gods were satisfied with my choice of groupings and what i wanted game in turn 1. I did 2 things wrong though. Stupidly i split the deployment of the first force, i had also assumed the wrong thing with the the chaos icons. The icons allow you to ignore scatter IF they are on the board at the start of the turn. It wasnt, so i goosed my bloodletter squad, which now sat behind a hill, they did very little apart from get butchered in shooting by a squad of warp spiders. The juggy herald and foot herald got a few kills in on a guarding squad, but by the time they were in combat they didnt have a squad to back them up. boo!! Stupido Kito.

But forgetting the khorne losses there was the amazment of the Tzeentch left flank. The daemon prince and herald+pink horror squad deep striked perfectly. In the first round of shooting the DP took out a squad of bikes and the pink horrors ate a unit of dire avengers. After that the DP floundered around shooting war walkers while the pink horrors spent the rest of the game in an epic close combat with the avatar. Nice little speed bump that defo made its points.

The soul grinder popped in right behind a unit of guardians. Munch munch, but then got vabourised by a unit of fire dragons that had been hiding in a wave serpent. Boo!! defo didnt make the points back on that one.

As the game progressed my reinforcements came in dribs and drabs. More horrors popped in and wiped out a 20 man squad of guardians. Flamers popped in, squished half the warp spiders then got toasted themselves. Then Captain Usless, the khorne daemon prince, ripped a tear in reality emerged through like the might beast he is, and was gunned down by the fire dragons. BOOO!!!! i used to play Imperial guard, so the eldar were tooled out to face them, turns out it was a good load out for fighting the daemons.

MVPs go to all the tzeetch daemons. Soul grinder was good just badly positioned. EVERYTHING khorne performed badly, but that was totally my fault. Fortune favours the bold and I wasn't being bold enough with my deep striking.

In the end, it was a bloody battle and a draw to boot. No troop choices left on the table to secure objectives. Really enjoyable game and gives me a lot to work on. But really was completely outplayed.

Ok, painting wise, Ive done nothing. Hoping to get all the heralds finished and maybe a unit of horrors finished in the evening. But at least i have 1500 points built. i think i have an idea what i want to do for 2000 pts too.

Daemon in a sack, Intro

So a quick run down on whats what in my demon army.

1 Skulltaker - generic herald
1 khorney herald on a juggy
1 tzeentch herald, old horror mini and is gonna be blue.

3 flamers

12 Bloodletters <-heralds go here
5 pink horrors + changeling(old sorceror model)
8 pink horrors <-herald goes here again old horrors.

fast attack
Daemon's need fast attack???

Heavy support
Obligatory soul grinder
Vannila khorne Demon Prince
Tzeentch Demon Prince(photos to follow, but suffice to say his name is Dr ManhataDaemon)

So thats my 1500, i reckon 2000 will be another bloodletter squad and a crusher squad.

So whats painted and not. Skulltaker is nearly complete, was waiting for my Vallejo bronze to arrive. Dr M, is finished I just need to finish his sexy resin base from Dark Art Miniatures. So that leaves everything to paint. The bloodletters need greenstuffed and the soul grinder needs glued.

The first outing of the daemons is this sunday. First game, so expecting a resounding thumping from those trixy eldar boys.

As promised, a picture of the tzeentch daemon prince.

Well, where do i start....

Firstly, I definition on what this blog is. It's aim is to keep me focused on what im doing. I've got all the acronyms under the sun, ADD, OCD, etc etc. So shiney objects veer me widely off course. By creating a blog that i have to update I hope to keep some stability to my painting projects.

That being said, im trying to find time to paint in between, these aren't in any order a) working b) Looking after my 2 week old son c) spending quality time with my wife and d) anything else that may rear its head.

Im aiming to try and get to a 1-2 hour a night schedule, maybe one or two miniatures. Anything more than that is a bonus. Look at that time as 'Flexy time'. If i dont manage 1-2 hours on a tuesday it can easily be made up at the weekend.

So with that in mind....... A list of projects.

40K Daemons. (my latest shiney object) I have a game on the cards for late August. 2000 pts and to be honest would love to field them fully painted. So thats the main goal.
Imperial Guard. I really want to finish these, just so i have my first ever army finished.

and on the fantasy side

Skaven. There is a chunk of these painted but again, would love to see them fully finished.
Tomb Kings. In a similar state to the Skaven.

There are a few side projects too such as blood bowl teams, necromunda gangs, and of course my sons Space Marine army. Gabriel's(son) space marines are a very very long term project but i want to give EVERY miniature the same attention to detail that i give characters so as of his fourth/fifth birthday he has an amazing army to play with.

So with the long term projects already established I think the next post will be a 'where im at' with the daemons as they are the project with the deadline.
